Terms of Service
Effective September 18, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and CharID ("CharID", "we", "us"), the operator of charid.app and the CharID application (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who can use CharID
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account and at least 18 years old to buy a subscription or credits. If you are between 13 and 18, a parent or guardian must make any purchase for you and agrees to these Terms on your behalf. Accounts are personal. You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for everything done under your account.
2. What the Service is
CharID is a visual storytelling platform. You build characters, settings, props and wardrobe items, plan pages and scenes, generate or upload artwork, lay out pages in Studio, and export or publish the result. Some features use third-party AI models to generate images and text from your inputs. Other features, including Studio and the image editor, work entirely with your own material.
3. Your content
You own the text, images and other material you upload ("Your Content"). You give CharID a limited license to store, process, display and transmit Your Content only as needed to run the Service for you, including sending it to AI providers when you ask the Service to generate something from it.
If you publish a project to your portfolio, you give CharID an additional license to display it publicly for as long as it stays published. You can unpublish at any time. When a marketplace launches, selling through it will be covered by additional terms you accept at that time; nothing in these Terms makes any work available for sale.
You are responsible for having the rights to anything you upload. Do not upload material you do not have permission to use.
4. Generated output
You may use the images and text the Service generates for you from your inputs ("Output") for any purpose, including commercially, subject to these Terms and to any rights third parties may hold in material you supplied. CharID claims no ownership of Output. Because copyright protection for AI-generated material varies by jurisdiction and depends on how it was made, we cannot guarantee that Output will be protected by copyright, and similar output may be generated for other users from similar inputs. CharID does not use Your Content or Output to train AI models, and we use AI providers under terms that do not permit them to train on it either.
5. Credits, subscriptions and payments
Studio and the image editor are free to use. AI generation uses credits.
- Every generation you run is charged, and the cost is shown before you run it. A result you do not like is still a completed generation and is charged. Generations that fail for a technical reason, such as a provider error or timeout, are charged as well.
- Credits included with a subscription are granted monthly and expire as described on the pricing page. Purchased credit packs do not expire while your account is active.
- Subscriptions renew monthly at the price shown when you subscribed until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and you keep access until then.
- Add-ons, including the Story Importer, are billed as described on the pricing page.
- All sales are final. Credits and subscription fees are not refundable except where the law requires a refund. If you are charged twice for the same purchase, contact support@charid.app and we will correct it.
- Prices may change. We will give notice before a price change affects an existing subscription.
Payments are processed by Stripe. CharID never sees or stores your full card number.
6. Automatic renewal disclosure (California)
Your subscription will automatically renew each month at the price shown at checkout until you cancel. You can cancel online at any time through your account settings, and cancellation is as easy as signing up. We will send a reminder before any price change and, for any plan billed annually in the future, before each renewal.
7. Acceptable use
You may not use the Service to:
- create, upload or publish sexual content involving minors, or any content that sexualizes children, under any circumstances;
- create or publish content that depicts a real person without their consent in a way that is sexual, defamatory or misleading;
- create sexual or intimate content involving a real person without their explicit consent, including using someone's likeness from an uploaded photo;
- generate or publish sexual or pornographic content of any kind, whether the characters are fictional or based on real people;
- infringe someone else's copyright, trademark or other rights;
- create content that promotes violence against people or groups, or that is illegal where you or we are located;
- attempt to bypass rate limits, credit accounting, safety filters or access controls, or to reverse engineer the Service;
- resell access to the Service or use it to build a competing AI generation service.
We may remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section, without refund.
8. Content ratings and audiences
Projects carry an audience rating you set. Published works are shown with that rating. You are responsible for rating your work honestly. We may re-rate or remove published work that is misrated.
9. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to legal@charid.app with: the work you say is infringed, the location of the material on the Service, your contact details, a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized, and a statement under penalty of perjury that you are the rights holder or authorized to act for them. We will remove or disable material in response to valid notices and may terminate repeat infringers. Copyright notices go to CharID, Los Gatos, California, legal@charid.app.
10. Termination and export
You can close your account at any time. We can suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms or that we are required to close by law. Closing your account unpublishes everything you published, including portfolio pages, shared links and thumbnails. After closure you have 30 days to export your projects, unless the closure was for a violation of section 7. After that period we delete your data as described in the Privacy Policy.
11. Service changes
We are a small company shipping quickly. Features change, and some are marked as previews or coming soon. We will not remove a feature you have paid for during a billing period without a comparable replacement or a pro-rated credit.
12. Third-party services, feedback and general terms
Parts of the Service depend on third-party providers for hosting, storage, payments and AI generation. We are not responsible for outages or changes at those providers, and we are not liable for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control. If you send us suggestions or feedback, we may use them without obligation to you. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and CharID about the Service. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets; you may not assign them.
13. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is." We do not promise that generation will always succeed, that Output will be free of errors or artifacts, or that the Service will be available at all times. AI output can be wrong, odd or inconsistent; review everything before you publish or print it.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, CharID's total liability for any claim arising from the Service is limited to the amount you paid CharID in the twelve months before the claim. CharID is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, including lost profits or lost data. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, in which case they apply to the extent permitted.
15. Indemnity
You agree to defend and hold CharID harmless from claims arising from Your Content, your published work, or your violation of these Terms.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Santa Clara County, California, and you consent to that jurisdiction. Nothing here prevents either party from seeking relief in small claims court.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will post the new version with a new effective date and, for material changes, notify you by email or in the app at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after that date means you accept the new Terms.
